SLEEP COUNCIL UNVEILS WINNERS OF FIRST EVER ZOMBIE AWARDS
[ FEBRUARY 2010 ]
A host of top celebs, politicians and media personalities are today (Friday February 26) named in the first ever Sleep Council Zombie Awards.The 'Oscars' of the sleep underworld, the 'Zombies' are designed to illustrate the perils of a poor night's sleep. The inaugural 2010 awards go to a star-studded cast of worn-out well-knowns and are being announced for the start of National Bed Month – March.

It's Official! Sleep is the new all-round miracle cure!
March is once again National Bed Month – the time of year when we like to remind everyone of the importance of getting a better night’s sleep and the role a good bed plays in achieving that.
This year we’re asking, what will make you happier, healthier and more intelligent, add years to your life and ensure you look at sparkling best? The answer of course is a good sleep regime and one of the essential keys to unlocking a good night's sleep is without a doubt a comfortable bed, says sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley.

WAKE UP CALL FOR SCHOOLS

Britain's top sleep experts are calling for the importance of a good night's sleep to be taught in schools. Dr Chris Idzikowski of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, independent sleep consultant Dr Neil Stanley, Kathleen McGrath, sleep nurse and founder of Sleep Matters and Jessica Alexander of The Sleep Council believe teaching children the value of good sleep should rank alongside the importance of healthy food and exercise in schools. And their call for action is supported by nearly three-quarters of the public.

NOW IT’S THE SEX CRUNCH!

British bed springs are bouncing up to a third less often than a year ago as the recession brings on a full blown sex crunch. According to a survey by The Sleep Council for National Bed Month (March), stress, unhappiness and money worries have dramatically hit our sex lives. Well over a quarter (28%) of those questioned said they now have less sex than this time last year: among 25 to 45-year-olds the figure rises to a third (34% for 35 - 44-year-olds). More

SLEEP COUNCIL DECLARES WAR ON WORRY

New research reveals that the credit crunch is taking its toll on our shut-eye – with one in four of us losing sleep over concerns about our finances. In response, The Sleep Council is on a mission to help people beat the credit crunch blues by getting ‘sleep fit’ with some chill out and check-back routines to be done in bed.
PUT MONEY INTO YOUR MATTRESS! ONE IN FOUR NOW FEEL IT’S SAFER

One third of all women and a quarter of men feel their savings would be safer in or under a mattress than in a bank or building society. In a snap survey, The Sleep Council also found that more than four out of 10 16-24-year-olds favour a 'bed for their bread'.
BRITS SWAP SEX DRIVES FOR HARD DRIVES

Sex drives are being swapped for hard drives as a quarter of British couples admit to sleeping separately on a regular basis.
According to the results of a survey by The Sleep Council for National Bed Month (March), the British bed is in danger of becoming more of a communications hub than a place for sleep as eight out of 10 people boot up a variety of hi-tech gadgets before bedtime.
The survey, to discover how The Great British Bedtime is changing, found a glass of water and separate beds are replacing cocoa and cuddles at bedtime.

According to research, more than 50% of people cite the reason for replacing their old bed is that it’s broken! And Sleep Council research suggests another third replace their beds because their old one is uncomfortable. And with March being National Bed Month, there’s no time like the present to buy into a better night’s sleep, with a wealth of new designs and technologies to choose from.

GRUMPY OLD WOMEN

According to a new Sleep Council survey, 24% of men say they never wake up in a bad mood as opposed to only 14% of women. The fairer sex is also more likely to stay grumpier for longer with 13% of them staying in a bad mood for two to four hours (men 10%).
